Female Smartphone Owners Send 802 Texts Per Month
If you thought that the text message juggernaut had leveled out, think again. Mike Snider’s story in USA Todayshows a very different story.
In 2009, just 18% of Americans owned a smartphone, but today that number has bolted to 44% that own a smartphone. Younger Americans are even more likely to own smartphones:
- 65% of 25-34′s own a smartphone.
- 53% of 18-24′s own a smartphone.
Usage of text messaging continues to grow also. Of mobile phone users, 81% have sent or received a text message in the past 30 days; in 2009, that number was 75%.
When it comes to texting, women sent an average of 802 in the past 30 days versus just 604 for men. The numbers from 2009 were 593 and 420.
And, here is Snider’s point as to why texting is replacing talking.
- Women talked for 771 minutes in the past month; that’s down from 861 in 2009.
- Men talked for 605 minutes in the past month; that’s down from 679 in 2009.
That should help alleviate some global warming.

2010 – The year of customer retention
By Dan Curry
2009 showed huge strides in automotive marketing, Dealers are opening their eyes to more and more marketing options and not going the cheap route as over $20 billion is expected to be spent in 2010 on dealer marketing. The previous is great news but most dealers are beginning to lose grasp on customer retention. We all have heard the statistic that a previous customer is 67% more likely to buy than a new one yet dealers were only seeing half this number at best so what gives?
Coming from a dealership I hate to say this but we have flooded our customers with direct mail and emails to the point they trash it with out even reading your messaging. ( just picture your customer crumpling up your money and throwing it out- this is essentially what they are doing) The days of direct mail are numbered that is clear as day, but what many don’t see is that email is going down the same road in automotive – Check out the stats-
| Email Open Rate |
Direct mail Open rate |
| 2008 - 23.3% | 2008 – 3.2% |
| 2009 - 19.1% | 2009 – 2.4% |

A Subaru dealer in Florida recently ran into this problem when an existing customer was in for service, his vehicle was 1200 miles over factory warranty and needed $2300 in Power train repair, The service manager took the gentleman to the finance office to see what option he may have on a warranty or new vehicle. The finance manager asked Mr. Smith if he had gotten the 6 reminders they Direct mailed and emailed to him, His reply in anger and confusion “What mailers!, why cant you just send something to my i-phone its always on me and I never miss a message” The finance manager looked at him puzzled with no answer for such a simple question.
Anyone who has ever experienced a similar problem from either side of the desk knows how frustrating these situations can be. Mr. smith brought up a great question thats befuddled the dealer. Why can’t we send something to Mr. smiths mobile phone would be an incorrect question- Why are we not sending Mr. Smith a SMS message to his mobile phone is the true question.
-SMS messaging has over a 94% open rate proving to Mr smith statement of:
“ My phone is always on me I never miss a message”
Mr. Smith is just one Prime example on how a dealer lost out on not only a warranty sale but a future vehicle sale.Although many owners realize regular maintenance will result in more efficient driving and higher resale, many simply feel in the dark about when and where to service their vehicle “I mean, have you taken a look under the hood of your vehicle lately? Americans are proven notoriously reactive people rather not proactive due to busy lifestyles and lack of reminders – Big time executives have assistants for a reason, Do the same for your customer guide them in the right direction and keep them focused there.
-There are numerous ways to make SMS messaging perform for you and endless ideas on usages.

4 Billion Text Messages Per Day
If you think your teenage daughter sends a lot of text messages, think again. It’s nothing compared to the amount of text messages being sent worldwide.
Figures released by the CTIA show that during the first six months of 2009 over 740 billion text messages were sent! That breaks down to about 4.1 billion text messages per day! That’s 17 text messages per cell phone, per day!
And, while we are texting more, people are actually talking less. Average call length for cell phone calls topped 3.13 minutes in 2007. In 2009, with the increase in text messages, average talking time dropped to just 2.03 minutes.
Arbitron Targets Cell Phone Only Households
The number of households that have cut the cord to the landline phone continues to increase. We have documented this trend in previous posts about cell phone only households.
Now, Arbitron has received the message too. In an attempt to make its radio ratings more accurate, Arbitron has announced plans to increase its diary market cell-phone-only (CPO) households. Arbitron plans to increase its cell-phone-only households to 15% across all of its diary markets in the USA by Spring 2010.
Add Embedded Links to Your Messages
The USA mobile internet population is increasing rapidly.

Embedded links will get visitors to your web site.
According to an October, 2009 study by eMarketer, 29.2% of mobile phone users log on to the mobile web at least once per month. This is up from 22.3% last year.
And, most of these mobile web users are heavy users. 21% of the American population gets on the mobile web more than 10 times per week. A year ago, only 15% got on the mobile web more than 10 times per week.
The average number of mobile internet sessions per month is 20. That doubles the amount of sessions that Americans accessed just one year ago.
Embedded Links
One of the best ways to take advantage of the burgeoning growth of the mobile web in the USA is to add an embedded link to your broadcast or return message when using 84444.com.
84444.com users can simply add a URL in the text message. When a consumer receives that message, he or she can simply hit the “go to” or similar button on their cell phone and reach your web site. Or, consumers can scroll down to the URL and click on it on some phones like the Blackberry and access your mobile web site.
Using embedded links is a great way to get more consumers to your mobile web site. It’s just another great feature of mobile marketing and 84444.com.
Mobile Marketing and Advertising: Change Is In The Air
Mobile has long been a small blip in most advertising and marketing budgets, despite the huge number of mobile users and the increasingly advanced devices and usage patterns.
Compared with online advertising spending, mobile looks tiny. According to eMarketer, mobile ad spending will reach $416 million in 2009 compared with $24 billion that will be spent overall for online advertising.
Many marketers have been hesitant to embrace a medium that lacks proven use cases. However, an increasing number have begun to realize that the addictive effect of mobile on the other advertising and marketing efforts spreads easily. eMarketer predicts that spending on mobile advertising will gain momentum through 2013, reaching $1.56 billion.
84444.com is Now Available for Internet Affiliate Marketing Sales
